How a notice Cash ISA works
When you want to take money out, you tell the provider first. The money is paid once the notice period has passed, from 35 to 120 days in the accounts above. Paying in works like any other Cash ISA, within your £20,000 annual allowance.
Notice periods compared
Here are the accounts above by notice period, with the highest rate for each and what £10,000 would earn in a year at that rate. Every rate here is variable, so it can change during the year.
| Notice | Accounts | Highest rate | £10,000 earns |
|---|---|---|---|
| 35 days | 1 | 3.10% | £310 |
| 60 days | 2 | 3.65% | £365 |
| 90 days | 1 | 3.26% | £326 |
| 100 days | 1 | 3.55% | £355 |
| 120 days | 1 | 3.20% | £320 |
The highest rate, 3.65% AER, needed 60 days' notice. The shortest notice, 35 days, paid 3.10% AER, and the longest, 120 days, paid 3.20% AER. A longer notice period does not always pay more, so choose the notice you could live with if you needed the money, then compare the rates for it.
Notice or easy access?
On 30 October 2026, the highest notice rate in our table was 3.65% AER, with 60 days' notice, and the highest easy access rate was 4.86% AER. A notice period is not a guarantee of a higher rate, so compare these accounts with the easy access Cash ISAs and the fixed rate Cash ISAs before you choose.
What early access costs
If an account lets you take money out without notice, the usual cost is a loss of interest on the amount you take out, often the same number of days as the notice period. If you have not yet earned that much interest, some providers take the difference from your savings, so you could get back less than you paid in. Other accounts only pay out once the notice period ends. Open the details on any account above to see its rule.
Moving a notice ISA to another provider
You can transfer a notice Cash ISA to another provider, and the money stays tax-free without using any of your allowance. The account's own terms still apply, though: many notice accounts ask for the same notice, or charge the same early access penalty, before a transfer out as before a withdrawal. See how ISA transfers work.
Flexible or not
3 of the 6 notice Cash ISAs above are flexible. A flexible ISA lets you take money out and put it back in the same tax year without using more of your allowance. With the others, money you pay back in counts as new money. See how a flexible ISA works.
Is the Cash ISA limit changing?
No. The cut to £12,000 a year for savers under 65, planned from 6 April 2027, was cancelled in the Budget on 28 October 2026. Notice accounts can take the full £20,000 allowance, like any other Cash ISA. Full detail is in the Cash ISA limit guide.
Questions people ask
What is a notice Cash ISA?
A notice Cash ISA is a Cash ISA where you agree to tell the provider a set number of days before you take money out. In the accounts on this page the notice period runs from 35 to 120 days. The interest is tax-free, like any Cash ISA.
Can I get my money out without giving notice?
Some notice accounts let you take money straight away in exchange for a charge, usually a loss of interest on the amount you take out. Others only pay out once the notice period has passed. Each account's rule is in its details on this page.
Do notice Cash ISAs pay more than easy access ones?
Not always. On 30 October 2026, the highest notice rate in our table was 3.65% AER, with 60 days' notice, and the highest easy access rate was 4.86% AER. Compare both tables rather than assuming a notice period earns a higher rate.
Which notice period pays the most?
In our table on 30 October 2026: the highest rate, 3.65% AER, needed 60 days' notice. The shortest notice, 35 days, paid 3.10% AER, and the longest, 120 days, paid 3.20% AER. A longer notice period does not always pay more, so choose the notice you could live with if you needed the money, then compare the rates for it.
Can the rate change after I open the account?
Yes. Every notice Cash ISA on this page pays a variable rate, so the provider can change it under the account's terms, usually after telling you.
Is my money protected if the provider fails?
Deposits with an authorised UK bank, building society or credit union are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per person, per banking licence.
