Editorial policy

We explain ISA rules and let you decide, rather than telling you what to do. This page sets out the rules we write to.

We don't give personal advice

We explain rules and the trade-offs involved. We don't tell you which specific account to open, because we don't know your circumstances and we're not authorised by the FCA to give personal financial advice. Tax treatment depends on your circumstances and may change.

Cash ISAs, and Stocks and Shares, Lifetime and Junior ISAs

A Cash ISA is a savings account, so naming a specific bank or building society is fine, and that's how our cash ISA tables work. Our guides about Stocks and Shares ISAs, Lifetime ISAs and Junior ISAs are different: they explain the rules in general terms only, and do not name or promote specific investment providers.

Where we compare specific Stocks and Shares platforms, such as in a fee table, that's a fact-based comparison of published charges, not a recommendation to invest with any of them. Pages like that carry a capital-at-risk warning.

Sources

Every guide links to gov.uk, HMRC or the FCA for the rules it describes, so you can check the primary source yourself rather than take our word for it.

Independence from commission

Some links on this site earn us commission and are marked "Ad". Commission never changes the order of a rate table, and accounts that pay us nothing are listed alongside ones that do. See how we make money.

Keeping pages right

Every page shows the date we last updated it. If a rule changes, or you find a mistake, tell us. See corrections.
