Transferring an ISA to or from HSBC
All 2 of HSBC's adult Cash ISAs accept transfers in from other providers.
How to move an ISA to HSBC
- For a Fixed Rate Cash ISA, you apply for the account first and say in the application that you want to transfer an existing cash or stocks and shares ISA.
- For the Loyalty Cash ISA, you complete a transfers in form, and HSBC opens the account automatically as part of the transfer if you do not already hold one.
- The HSBC Cash ISA terms say you can transfer in a cash ISA or stocks and shares ISA from HSBC or another ISA manager, except Help to Buy: ISAs.
- The HSBC terms say money paid in during the current tax year can only be transferred in full, while all or part of the money paid in previous tax years can be moved.
- Both the Fixed Rate Cash ISA and the Loyalty Cash ISA need an HSBC current account.
- On a Fixed Rate Cash ISA, HSBC needs the £500 minimum or the transfer instruction within the first 30 days, and the transferred funds within the first 70 days.
How long a transfer takes
HSBC says a Loyalty Cash ISA transfer should be completed within 15 working days once it has received and accepted the transfers in form. On a transfer out, HSBC says it makes the transfer within 5 working days of receiving the request from the other ISA manager. gov.uk says ISA transfers should take no longer than 15 working days between Cash ISAs, and 30 calendar days for other types of transfer.
Moving an ISA away from HSBC
The HSBC terms say a transfer out must include all of the money paid in during the current tax year, but can include all or part of the money from previous tax years. A Fixed Rate Cash ISA transferred before the end of the fixed term pays an early closure fee: the lower of the interest earned or the interest earned in the first 90 days. Closing a Fixed Rate Cash ISA before day 90 could leave no interest paid, and HSBC takes the fee from the balance. You can move a Cash ISA from HSBC to another provider at any time. Ask the new provider to arrange the transfer: if you take the money out yourself, it leaves the ISA and paying it in again uses your allowance. A fixed rate ISA usually charges for leaving before the end of its term. See how ISA transfers work.
Transfer details checked on HSBC's own website on 9 October 2026.
Is the HSBC ISA flexible?
None of HSBC's adult Cash ISAs is a flexible ISA, so money you take out and pay back in counts towards your allowance again.
