Transferring an ISA to or from Santander
All 5 of Santander's adult Cash ISAs accept transfers in from other providers.
How to move an ISA to Santander
- You first need to open a Santander ISA: the cash ISA transfer form cannot be used until you have opened a cash ISA with Santander.
- Santander has separate forms for moving a stocks and shares ISA, a Lifetime ISA or an Innovative Finance ISA into a Santander cash ISA you already hold.
- Santander only accepts money paid into an ISA in the current tax year in full, while money from previous tax years can be transferred in whole or in part.
- The Fixed Rate ISA and Easy Access ISA have a £500 minimum balance, but you can open either with a zero balance if you transfer in existing ISAs worth at least £500.
- Santander does not charge a transfer fee, but other providers may.
How long a transfer takes
Funds can take up to 30 days to arrive after Santander receives your request, and a Fixed Rate ISA needs the application within 14 days of opening and the money within 30 days. Santander's ISA transfers page says you can transfer in ISAs from other providers at any time, while its Easy Access ISA page asks for funds from an external ISA within 14 days of opening. gov.uk says ISA transfers should take no longer than 15 working days between Cash ISAs, and 30 calendar days for other types of transfer.
Moving an ISA away from Santander
Any money paid into a Santander ISA in the current tax year must be transferred in full, while money from previous tax years can be transferred in part. Closing a Santander Fixed Rate ISA or transferring it to another provider means taking out the whole balance, and Santander charges a fee equal to 120 days' interest. Santander does not charge to close the Easy Access ISA after the 14 day cancellation period, but says some types of transfer are not allowed. You can move a Cash ISA from Santander to another provider at any time. Ask the new provider to arrange the transfer: if you take the money out yourself, it leaves the ISA and paying it in again uses your allowance. A fixed rate ISA usually charges for leaving before the end of its term. See how ISA transfers work.
Transfer details checked on Santander's own website on 9 October 2026.
Is the Santander ISA flexible?
None of Santander's adult Cash ISAs is a flexible ISA, so money you take out and pay back in counts towards your allowance again.
