Transferring an ISA to or from Skipton
All 9 of Skipton's adult Cash ISAs accept transfers in from other providers.
How to move an ISA to Skipton
- A Skipton Cash ISA has to be opened first, and a transfer can then be requested during an online setup, in Skipton Online or in the Skipton app.
- In a branch, a Transfer Authority Form is needed, and Skipton requires one form for each ISA transferred.
- Skipton says a Lifetime ISA transferred into a different type of ISA, such as a Cash ISA, is subject to the 25% government withdrawal charge.
- Skipton allows full or partial transfers in of previous tax years' subscriptions from another provider, but a transfer from another Skipton ISA must be the full balance.
- Skipton says the annual ISA allowance does not apply to Cash ISA transfers, so the whole existing Cash ISA balance can be moved if the account terms allow it.
- On the Cash ISA Saver, transferring the full balance away loses the tax-free benefit on any previous years' allowances withdrawn and not paid back in before the account closes.
How long a transfer takes
Skipton aims to complete Cash ISA transfers in within seven business days using the ISA Electronic Transfer System, and says a paper form or cheque may take up to 15 business days. Skipton says transfers in from a stocks and shares ISA, Innovative Finance ISA or Lifetime ISA tend to take 4 to 6 weeks. gov.uk says ISA transfers should take no longer than 15 working days between Cash ISAs, and 30 calendar days for other types of transfer.
Moving an ISA away from Skipton
If both accounts' terms allow it, a variable rate Skipton Cash ISA can move out in part or in full for previous years' subscriptions, but only in full for current year subscriptions. A fixed rate Skipton Cash ISA can only be transferred out in full, and a transfer during the fixed term carries the interest penalty set out in the account terms. On the 18 Month Fixed Rate Cash ISA, closing after the 14 day cancellation period and before the fixed term ends costs 90 days' worth of interest. You can move a Cash ISA from Skipton to another provider at any time. Ask the new provider to arrange the transfer: if you take the money out yourself, it leaves the ISA and paying it in again uses your allowance. A fixed rate ISA usually charges for leaving before the end of its term. See how ISA transfers work.
Transfer details checked on Skipton's own website on 9 October 2026.
Is the Skipton ISA flexible?
4 of Skipton's 9 adult Cash ISAs are flexible: Two Access Cash ISA Saver, Four Access Cash ISA Saver, Six Access Cash ISA Saver and Cash ISA Saver. With a flexible ISA you can take money out and put it back in the same tax year without using more of your allowance.
